Leftover Halloween Candy Cookie Recipe

Chocolate chip cookies cooling, fresh from the oven.

Whether your kids have stopped eating their candy or you did not get as many trick-or-treaters as expected, leftover Halloween candy can feel like a waste. Plus, you do not want to hold on to it until Christmas–yuck! Whatever reason you have leftover candy this year, Baker Mama has a solution for you, make cookies! Turning old candy into cookies is the best way to use up extra candy and keep the kids interested.

Ingredients

For your candy-Frankenstein cookies, you will need, one cup of unsalted and softened butter, one cup of granulated sugar, two large eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, two and ½ cups of all-purpose flour, one teaspoon of baking soda, ½ a teaspoon of salt, and two cups of Halloween candy. The Baker Mama recommends about 30 pieces of bite-size candy chopped up and ten mini-bags of candy, like candy corn or M&Ms.

Instructions

In a bowl or a stand mixer, beat the sugar and butter together until smooth. Beat in vanilla extract and eggs until incorporated. After, mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until combined. With a spoon, mix in candy and then scoop onto a parchment-lined tray and top with more crushed candy. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for nine to 11 minutes. Let cookies cool for five minutes on a baking sheet before removing them to a wire rack to cool completely.

How to Curb the Candy Cookie Craving

If you find you and your kids cannot get enough of the candy cookies, try freezing them for when you are in the need of something sweet. The Baker Mama recommends freezing the cookie dough balls on parchment-lined paper for at least 30 minutes before transferring them to a freezer-safe bag where the cookies will last for up to three months. When you want to serve them, heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 12 to 14 minutes.

Using Candy that Pairs Together

While kids love as much sugar as they can get, not bothering to care about taste and texture, we adults can be a little pickier. If you do not want to mix together candy corn, M&Ms, Snickers, Reeses, Kit-Kats, and so much more, choose candies that complement each other. Maybe make a Snickers, Twix, and Hersey cookie dough or a Reeses and Kit-Kat batch. Make sure to cut up the candy smaller to fit the mini bag sizes that are specified above.
